Our Serious Injury team is growing, and we’re looking for a highly-experienced litigator to steer heavyweight EL, PL, RTA and medical-negligence files from day one.

What the job looks like

· Support the Team Leader with day-to-day department management and offer reciprocal assistance to colleagues when workloads peak.

· Run and grow your own caseload of serious-injury and clinical-negligence matters (EL / PL / RTA), steering each file from instruction to trial or negotiated settlement.

· Assess liability and quantum: review medical evidence, obtain fresh reports, research and cite the latest case law. · Maximise personal billings and hit department income forecasts while maintaining first-class client care.

· Meet clients regularly—in person and virtually—to explain strategy, manage expectations and build lasting trust.

· Lead meetings with a full expert team: medical specialists, case managers, care experts, architects, forensic accountants and counsel.

· Analyse evidence in depth to resolve disputes on liability, causation and quantum.

· Draft key documents: witness statements, pleadings, Part 35 questions, detailed schedules of loss and counter-schedules.

· Secure early interim payments and arrange prompt, appropriate rehabilitation.

· Negotiate robustly with insurers and defendant solicitors, keeping write-offs and disbursement issues to an absolute minimum.

· Conduct CCMCs, CMCs, telephone hearings and JSMs; prepare court bundles and brief leading counsel when required.

· Use Proclaim in line with firm policy; coach junior staff on best practice.

· Apply strong commercial awareness to drive profitability and spot opportunities for added value.

· Collaborate with Marketing—share case stories, legal insights and client-friendly explanations for blogs, socials and press releases; Q&A videos and webinars when needed.

· Act as a brand ambassador on LinkedIn: engage with firm posts, highlight milestones and contribute thought-leadership content to raise both your profile and Optimal’s.

· Stay current on CPR updates, costs reforms and emerging medical-legal issues to keep the department ahead of the curve.

· Outstanding Fee Earning skills and technical ability in RTA / ELPL /Clinical Negligence
