Job Description - Platform Engineer

Amiqus is the UK’s most trusted compliance and onboarding platform, enabling simple, fast and secure access to products and services online. Whether moving home, changing jobs or looking for professional help, our software makes it easy for everyone involved.

We’re trusted by Governments, NHS, Banks and 600+ regulated organisations across sectors in the UK to help people get to work on the things that matter, faster.
  • Salary range of £55k - £65k

  • Vitality private health cover & insurance benefits

  • 34 days annual leave

  • 5% matched pension contribution

  • 12 paid personal development days annually with dedicated budget

  • Hybrid working valuing outcomes over in-person hours

This role will be a crucial figure within our growing engineering function. This has an integral role in our growth plan and will help shape the future of our infrastructure, as well as our build, deployment, and monitoring processes. You will have the autonomy to improve the day-to-day operation of a mature, well-tested application regularly used by thousands of people. The successful candidate will work closely with our Platform Team Manager and existing platform engineers to solve challenges and implement solutions.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Build, improve and maintain infrastructure using AWS, Terraform, Python and related tools

  • Contribute to secure, reliable CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes across environments

  • Work with senior engineers to support infrastructure design and decision-making

  • Take responsibility for delivering your work, raising blockers early and asking questions when needed

  • Proactively identify and resolve issues, and participate in debugging and performance improvements

  • Collaborate with your team to improve tooling and platform reliability

  • Contribute to documentation, observability and automation efforts to improve platform quality

  • Stay informed about the tools and technologies we use, and be open to learning and applying new ones

  • Support the team in achieving shared goals and maintaining a strong engineering culture

Our platform tech:

  • AWS: ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, Opensearch, Elasticache, Secrets Manager

  • Infrastructure: Terraform for infrastructure as code, Docker for containerisation

  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions for automated builds and deployments

  • Scripting: Python and shell for tools and automation

  • Monitoring & Observability: Datadog and AWS CloudWatch

  • Application stack: Laravel (PHP) and VueJS

Talented people make Amiqus and staying true to our culture is important as we develop and grow. Most importantly, this role will be filled by someone who shares our values and work ethic.

In addition, we are looking for the following:

  • You’re confident working with AWS, Terraform, and container-based infrastructure, and know when to ask for input

  • You take ownership of your work and deliver consistently with minimal supervision

  • You’re naturally curious and enjoy learning how things work under the hood

  • You’re thoughtful about solving problems and take pride in writing clean, maintainable infrastructure code

  • You’re comfortable collaborating across teams, sharing your work, and contributing to shared decisions

  • You’re open to feedback and willing to admit when you don’t know something

  • You care about doing things well, not just getting them done

We think it’s important to have an open and transparent interview process so that you have a clear understanding of what to expect.  The process might vary slightly depending on the role type or team you apply to join but it usually goes as follows:

  • Internal review of applications

  • An initial chat about the role with our People & Engagement Manager

  • A non-technical interview with the Team Manager and one other manager

  • A technical interview with the Team Manager and a senior engineer

  • Role offer

  • Onboarding welcome and process kick off with support across the team

Diverse perspectives and people of all backgrounds are welcome at Amiqus. We recognise that building an inclusive workplace requires proactivity and commitment. We acknowledge our moral and legal responsibilities to promote equal opportunities and pursue equality in our work.

If we can make preparations to make sure you have a positive interview experience, please let us know.”
