Job Description - Policy Associate

About the role


Innovate Finance is the leading trade association for the FinTech community in the UK. We support the next generation of technology-led innovators in creating a fairer, more inclusive, and more productive financial services system for all. 


This is an exciting role, covering all aspects of financial services and technology, from consumer credit and open banking to payments and capital markets. You will be working with the world’s leading FinTech businesses to shape the future of financial services in the UK. We work closely with Government, Parliament and regulators, and advocate for regulation and policy to ensure the UK continues to be the best place in the world to start, grow and scale a FinTech company.



Location: London, hybrid with x3 days WFH


Full time role (Mon-Fri)


Contract: Permanent


Salary: £26,000 - £30,000


Start date: September 2025



About you


You will be looking to either start or progress your early career in public policy and regulation in financial services or tech. You will be a proactive and keen learner who is adept to managing competing deadlines and handling key stakeholder relationships.  


You will:



  • be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision; 

  • have a strong interest in UK politics and current affairs;

  • be a proactive and keen learner; 

  • be a strong team player who enjoys testing ideas and harnessing the insights of your team;  

  • understand how the UK political and legislative system works and have a keen interest and ideally some experience (eg internship) in politics, public policy and/or government and regulation;

  • be comfortable communicating professionally with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders (all levels of seniority);

  • have excellent written communication skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to write and convey key messages clearly and concisely;

  • have strong analytical skills: able to understand complex issues, break them down into clear components and identify trends and cause and effect;

  • be well organised and be able to proactively manage competing, time-sensitive deliverables;

  • possess an understanding of regulatory and public policy issues impacting the UK FinTech sector and/or tech and financial services.



Experience in financial services, Tech or FinTech is desirable, but not essential. You might have some experience working in government, politics, communications or public affairs. 



Key responsibilities



  • Liaising with our members on policy issues to seek their views and input

  • Undertaking research and providing advice and briefings for the leadership team

  • Drafting a wide range of external stakeholder-facing policy outputs, including consultation responses and thought leadership pieces

  • Drafting media statements

  • Identifying and collaborating on public affairs opportunities 

  • Producing insight briefings for our members, government and MPs 

  • Producing presentations for events and meetings, and giving presentations

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to create and manage policy-focused events, such as webinars, workshops and receptions

  • Liaising with Innovate Finance’s strategic partners to manage the timely delivery of policy outputs

  • Representing Innovate Finance and our members at external events with policymakers and other trade associations

  • Deputising for other team members in external meetings
