Russell Taylor Group is partnering with a well-established food labelling and compliance specialist to recruit a Specification Technologist Team Leader for a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of going permanent at the end of the contract.
This is a fully remote role for a UK-based professional with strong technical expertise in food specifications, regulatory standards, and team leadership.

The Opportunity:
In this key role, you'll lead a remote team of specification technologists and compliance advisors, working with major UK retailer accounts. You'll oversee the delivery of accurate, legally compliant product specifications, and act as the main point of contact for client stakeholders, ensuring expectations are aligned and deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and support a team of Specification Technologists and Advisors
• Manage the delivery of food specifications and compliance documentation for major retailer accounts
• Serve as the key liaison for client communication and issue resolution
• Provide technical guidance on UK/EU food labelling regulations
• Oversee workload allocation and ensure timelines and quality standards are achieved
• Support specification input via retailer systems (e.g., Tesco TQC, M&S Find, Sainsbury's, etc.)
• Develop and coach team members to maintain high standards
• Escalate technical challenges or resourcing needs when required
• Drive process improvements and support best practice sharing across the team
• Deputise for senior managers when necessary

Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Degree in Food Science, Regulatory Affairs or a related field (or equivalent industry experience)
• Minimum 1 year experience in food technical, specification, or regulatory compliance roles
• Strong experience with UK retailer specification systems (e.g., Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury's, Waitrose)
• Strong understanding of food labelling laws in the UK and EU
• Proven experience leading or mentoring in a technical environment
• Strong organisational, communication, and time-management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
