Job Description - Staff Machine Learning Scientist (Germany, UK, Ireland, Denmark, Poland,Portuga)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Zendesk. We are currently looking for a Staff Machine Learning Scientist in Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, or Portugal.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of conversational AI, shaping the future of intelligent customer interactions. You will be joining a senior-level team tasked with bridging cutting-edge ML research and real-world product impact. The position combines innovation, prototyping, and leadership, giving you the freedom to explore new ideas while mentoring peers and setting high standards for research excellence. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, influence product direction, and contribute to building AI systems capable of reasoning, planning, and adapting in real time.

Accountabilities

  • Drive innovation by exploring and championing new product ideas and research directions that shape the AI roadmap.
  • Lead rapid prototyping, translating business requirements into technical solutions and validating hypotheses through experimentation.
  • Define and standardize research practices, establishing robust evaluation methods for AI agent performance.
  • Mentor scientists and engineers, empowering the team to solve complex challenges and grow their technical expertise.
  • Own end-to-end projects, from ideation through implementation and reporting, ensuring measurable business impact.
  • Stay ahead of emerging ML and NLP advancements, integrating new concepts into research and product development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration by peer-reviewing research and sharing knowledge across teams.
  • Proven track record in Machine Learning or NLP research, ideally with senior industry experience.
  • Deep expertise in designing and implementing neural network architectures, particularly in NLP.
  • Strong background with Generative AI, including LLMs, prompt engineering, and context management for AI agents.
  • Experience with conversational AI and voice technologies such as TTS or STS is highly desirable.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor peers, influence strategy, and contribute to a culture of innovation.
