Norfolk County Council is recruiting School Crossing Patrols across a number of locations throughout the county. These roles provide a vital service to local communities by helping children, families and other pedestrians cross roads safely on their journey to and from school.

School Crossing Patrols have proudly served communities nationwide for more than 70 years, and in Norfolk we are proud to continue that tradition. By joining our team, you'll play an important role in keeping people safe while building positive relationships within your local community.

• Attleborough Junior- 5 hours 

• Avenue Junior (Norwich)- 5 hours 

• Catton Grove Primary (PM only)- 2.5 hours 

• Clenchwarton Primary- 5 hours 

• Cromer Junior (Two positions)- 5 hours per position 

• Fakenham Infants- 5 hours 

• Falcon Junior (Norwich)- 5 hours 

• Firside Junior (Norwich)- 5 hours 

• Great Ellingham Primary- 5.83 hours 

• Heartsease Primary School (PM only)- 2.5 hours

• Mile Cross Primary- 6.25 hours  

• Rollesby Primary- 5 hours 

• Stoke Holy Cross Primary- 5 hours 

• Spixworth Junior School (AM only) – 2.5 hours 

• Wroughton Primary School- 6.25 hours

About the role

As a School Crossing Patrol, you will:

• Help children, parents, carers and other pedestrians cross the road safely at designated crossing points.
• Stop traffic safely and courteously when required.
• Encourage pedestrians to use the patrol rather than crossing independently.
• Act as a positive and reassuring presence within the local community.
• Build strong working relationships with your designated school.
• Help promote road safety awareness amongst children and families.
• Report any incidents, concerns or hazards that may affect the safe operation of the crossing site.

This role involves working independently outdoors in all weather conditions during school opening and closing times.

What we're looking for

No previous experience is required as full training will be provided.

• Have good communication skills and can interact confidently with both adults and children.
• Are reliable with excellent timekeeping.
• Can remain calm, polite and professional in a variety of situations.
• Have a commitment to promoting safety and wellbeing.
