DBS: Ideally, you'll hold a DBS on the Update Service. If not, a DBS check will be required before starting.

We’re looking for an experienced and compassionate Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer to join the college’s Student Support team. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in safeguarding vulnerable learners, providing wellbeing support and helping students overcome barriers that may affect their education, engagement and future outcomes.
The Role
As Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer, you’ll manage safeguarding and wellbeing referrals and an allocated caseload, providing timely intervention and support to learners who may be experiencing welfare, mental health or personal challenges.
What you'll be doing
* Triage safeguarding and wellbeing referrals and manage an allocated caseload.
* Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, disclosures and wellbeing issues.
* Assess and escalate safeguarding risks in line with KCSIE and college procedures.
* Provide targeted wellbeing interventions, advice and guidance to learners.
* Support learners experiencing mental health, welfare or personal challenges.
* Use holistic, restorative and trauma-informed approaches to help build resilience.
* Monitor learner engagement, progress and wellbeing outcomes.
* Work with curriculum and support teams to identify learners at risk of disengagement or withdrawal.
* Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records using systems such as CPOMS or equivalent.
* Work collaboratively with parents, carers and external professionals, including Local Authorities, Early Help, Children’s Services and the Police.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and confident, with the professional judgement to deal with sensitive and sometimes complex situations.
You’ll ideally have:
* A minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline such as Social Care, Mental Health or Mentoring.
* Proven experience working in a safeguarding role with young people and/or vulnerable adults.
* Strong knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the Prevent Duty.
* Experience supporting young people with mental health concerns and a wide range of needs.
* Experience of positive behaviour management.
* Knowledge of electronic recording and reporting systems.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
* The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and meet deadlines.
* A genuine passion for supporting young people within a diverse and dynamic learning environment.
