Job Description - Safeguarding Officer

Safeguarding Officer

Department: Safeguarding Team

Location: Motorsport UK, Bicester Motion.

Hours of Work: Full Time (37.5 hours per week). Core hours are 09:00 until 17:30, Mon – Fri.

Line Manager: Head of Safeguarding

Direct Reports: None.

Grade: C

Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 pa

Role Purpose

The Safeguarding Officer is an integral part of the Motorsport UK safeguarding team. The purpose of the role is to work alongside the Motorsport UK community, supporting and enabling them to meet a high safeguarding standard. This is achieved through the offer of training and development opportunities, supportive resources and excellent customer service.

Primary Objectives

The primary objectives associated with this role will be:

Develop and embed a consistent level of knowledge of safeguarding across motorsport. This requires the postholder to engage with motorsport Clubs, Officials and Volunteers to provide training and awareness raising materials that meet their needs.
Lead the delivery of Safeguarding standards across Motorsport UK; engaging with safeguarding professionals to understand what best practice looks like and building a framework that can be implemented across motorsport communities.
Work collaboratively with Motorsport UK volunteers, officials, communities and clubs to implement and embed suitability checks in an appropriate and proportionate way.
Provide feedback to the Head of Safeguarding in order to influence and shape the design, development and delivery of the Safeguarding strategy.

Additional Responsibilities

Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Club Safeguarding Officers and provide regular opportunities for engagement in order to gain feedback and support with the development of their knowledge.
Design content for safeguarding training, education and awareness raising programmes and support the delivery of these.
Create and maintain resources for safeguarding toolkits for different audiences including Motorsport Clubs, Teams, Parents and Competitors.
Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Communications team, develop the safeguarding section of the website, focusing on relevance and accessibility with the aim of improving the reporting of safeguarding incidents.
Provide awareness raising opportunities to motorsport communities to help them understand their role in ensuring people working in regulated activity have an appropriate suitability check in place.
Lead the implementation of suitability checks (DBS & PVG) across all Motorsport UK clubs, communities, teams, officials and volunteers.
Provide exceptional customer service skills, responding efficiently to queries from the community to assist them in meeting the necessary safeguarding standards.
Provide regular reports to evidence the level of compliance and identify and escalate gaps appropriately.
Liaise with the Safeguarding & Welfare Case Manager to manage and mitigate risks identified through the suitability check process.
Support the design and delivery of bespoke projects in response to community feedback and learning from cases.

Core Competencies

A professional background in safeguarding, or demonstrable experience of safeguarding in sport.
Understanding of safeguarding legislation and experience of applying this in practice.
Knowledge of the suitability checks and vetting processes used across the UK and the legal requirements of these.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals from a variety of sporting disciplines and backgrounds.
Demonstrable experience of building relationships across a diverse range of audiences, including colleagues, Board members, communities, and clubs.
Knowledge and experience of using different IT packages and programmes to present information in a number of different formats to suit different audiences.
An organised and analytical mindset, able to work on a variety of projects concurrently while remaining calm, resilient and focussed.
Attention to detail, the ability to review and analyse data sets to identify themes, gaps and patterns.
Committed, professional and proactive with the ability to work with limited supervision.
A desire for continued professional development in this area.
Display attitude and behaviours that respect and value diversity and promote equal opportunity and the welfare of others.
Willingness to work flexibly with some requirement for evening and weekend working.
