The Company

Loom Talent are proud to have been exclusively appointed to lead the hiring strategy for a new role, Safety and Compliance Officer, based in Bedfordshire.

Working for a well-established, growing, in house logistics business that has retained a personal culture while becoming a sophisticated, multi-site operation. With six warehouse locations, around 600,000 sq. ft. of warehousing, and a fleet of 80+ vehicles.

The Safety and Compliance Offiicer, will combine Health & Safety expertise with business systems, compliance, data and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Business Process & Safety Manager, this is a varied, hands-on role working across the business and its multiple sites. You'll work closely with managers, operational teams and senior leadership to identify risk, improve processes, strengthen compliance and help create safer and more efficient ways of working.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to be more than a traditional compliance professional. You'll have genuine scope to influence how the business operates, introduce improvements and help shape systems and processes as the organisation continues to grow.

What will you be doing?

You'll play a key role across Health & Safety, compliance, business systems and continuous improvement, including:

🦺 Conducting planned, unannounced, and dynamic audits across multiple sites.
🔎 Carrying out workplace inspections, risk assessments and compliance reviews.
📋 Investigating accidents, incidents, near misses and compliance breaches, including root cause analysis.
🎯 Developing and driving corrective and preventative actions through to completion.
📊 Analysing audit, incident, and compliance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
🤝 Working closely with site and department managers to promote a positive culture of safety, compliance, and accountability.
🗣️ Delivering toolbox talks, inductions, workshops, training, and awareness sessions.
📚 Supporting managers with safe systems of work, procedures and compliance requirements.
💻 Acting as a key user and administrator for business and compliance systems, including Microsoft 365, Riskex, GoAudits, Lucidchart and future platforms.
⚙️ Developing and improving workflows, dashboards, forms, reports and business processes.
🗺️ Creating and maintaining process maps, procedures and supporting documentation.
🔄 Identifying opportunities to improve, optimise and standardise existing business processes.
💡 Challenging outdated processes constructively and introducing practical, sustainable improvements.
📈 Preparing compliance, safety and operational reports for senior management and directors.
🤝 Liaising with external auditors, customers, regulators and other stakeholders where required.
🔧 Providing system support, troubleshooting and guidance to managers and employees.
📢 Keeping the business up to date with changes in legislation, regulations and industry best practice.What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of Health & Safety, compliance and auditing, combined with an aptitude for systems, data and process improvement.

The successful candidate for the role of Safety and Compliance Officer will have the following:

Strong practical experience within Health & Safety, compliance, logistics, warehousing, distribution, or a similar operational environment.
Experience in a Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain Environment.
Practical experience of Health & Safety within a Warehouse, Logistics, Storage or Distribution environment
A strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, risk management and compliance principles.
Experience conducting audits, inspections, investigations, and compliance reviews.
Experience developing risk assessments, safe systems of work, procedures and operational controls.
Advanced proficiency across Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint and Forms.
Experience using or supporting compliance, audit or business management systems.
The ability to quickly learn, configure and administer new software platforms and systems.
Experience developing workflows, process maps, documentation, dashboards or management information.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn data and findings into practical actions.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with everyone from operational colleagues through to directors.
A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel regularly between sites.Experience with Riskex, GoAudits, Lucidchart or similar platforms would be advantageous, although the ability and willingness to learn new systems is more important.
