Sales Order Processor / Commercial Assistant

Location: Corby – Office Based
Salary: £28,000–£32,000 per annum, depending on experience
Employment: Permanent, Full Time

Have you gained experience processing customer orders within manufacturing and want to develop into a broader commercial role?

We are recruiting for a Sales Order Processor / Commercial Assistant to join an established manufacturing services business in Corby. This opportunity would suit someone with a solid grounding in sales order processing and customer communication who is keen to develop their technical knowledge, take on greater responsibility and build a long-term commercial career.

Working alongside the Commercial Manager, you will help manage the customer journey from initial enquiry and quotation through to order fulfilment. You will use your existing experience to coordinate customer orders while learning more about pricing, estimating, technical specifications and the company’s manufacturing capabilities.

As your knowledge and confidence grow, there will be scope to take greater ownership of enquiries, quotations and customer relationships, with the potential to progress towards a more senior commercial position over time.

The Role

Order Management & Customer Relationships

Review and process customer purchase orders, checking pricing, quantities, specifications and delivery requirements against agreed quotations.

Clarify customer requirements and resolve discrepancies before orders are progressed.

*

Issue order acknowledgements and keep customers informed of lead times, progress and delivery schedules.

*

Work closely with production, operations and despatch to ensure requirements are understood and orders move smoothly through the business.

*

Coordinate order changes and help resolve queries or delays.

*

Maintain accurate order and customer information within the company’s systems.

*

Build positive customer relationships through clear communication and reliable follow-through.

Quotations & Commercial Development

Support the preparation of accurate quotations, developing towards handling enquiries with greater independence.

*

Gather and review information from customer enquiries, drawings and specifications to establish requirements.

*

Learn about the company’s processes, materials, finishes, capabilities and pricing considerations.

*

Follow up quotations and outstanding enquiries, helping to maintain an accurate sales pipeline.

*

Support contract reviews and the handover of customer requirements to production.

*

Identify opportunities to support repeat business and strengthen customer relationships.

Marketing Support

Contribute to LinkedIn posts, website updates and customer communications.

*

Help gather photographs and information about completed projects, products and services.

*

Support the preparation of straightforward marketing content as part of the wider commercial team.

Marketing experience is useful but is not essential. The main requirement is a willingness to learn and contribute, with order management and commercial support forming the core of the position.

About You

You will already have practical experience of sales order processing within manufacturing, engineering or a related production environment, including checking customer requirements, coordinating with internal teams and providing order updates.

You will also bring:

An interest in developing beyond order processing into quotations, estimating and wider commercial responsibilities.

Confidence communicating with customers and colleagues by telephone and email.

*

Strong attention to detail when working with prices, quantities, specifications and delivery information.

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several enquiries or orders at different stages.

Experience using an ERP, CRM or order management system, alongside Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

*

The aptitude to learn technical products and manufacturing processes, including how to interpret information from drawings and specifications.

*

A proactive approach to resolving queries, asking questions and taking ownership.

*

The ambition to develop your skills and work towards greater responsibility.

Previous exposure to quotations, technical enquiries or business social media would be advantageous, although support and training will be provided as your responsibilities develop.
