A well-regarded secondary school in Wakefield is seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker to join its site team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, site supervisor, facilities operative, or maintenance professional looking to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment.

The successful candidate will take pride in the appearance and upkeep of the school and be committed to ensuring the premises are maintained to a high standard for staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Opening and securing the school premises each day.
Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks.
Conducting regular health and safety checks across the site.
Monitoring the condition of buildings, grounds, and facilities.
Liaising with contractors and supporting planned maintenance works.
Assisting with room setups for events, examinations, and school activities.
Managing site security and responding to any site-related issues.
Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures and statutory requirements.
Supporting the wider site team with day-to-day operational tasks.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Previous experience in a caretaker, site supervisor, facilities, maintenance, or estates role.
Practical maintenance and repair skills.
A good understanding of health and safety practices.
The ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
A proactive and flexible approach to work.
Experience working within a school or educational environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
