We are currently recruiting for a Caretaker to join a friendly school in Shard End on a temporary-to-permanent basis, with an immediate start from 19th August 2026. Hours: To be confirmed (flexible working pattern available) This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented school environment. The successful candidate will initially join on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to apply for and secure the permanent position. About the Role As the School Caretaker, you will play a key role in ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the site, carrying out routine maintenance, opening and closing the school, and responding to any maintenance issues as they arise. Working hours are to be confirmed and may be either a split shift or an alternative working pattern to suit both the school and the successful candidate. Key responsibilities include: * Opening and securing the school premises each day. * Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs. * Ensuring the school grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained. * Monitoring the condition of the building and reporting any larger maintenance issues. * Assisting with health and safety checks across the site. * Supporting with deliveries, setting up rooms, and general site duties as required. * Liaising with contractors when necessary and ensuring site security is maintained. Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: * Have previous caretaking, site management, maintenance, or facilities experience (school experience is desirable but not essential). * Be practical, organised, and able to work independently. * Have a good understanding of health and safety responsibilities. * Be reliable, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining a safe learning environment. * Have excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance. * Be able to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and visitors. * Be willing to complete all compliance checks before 18th August 2026, including an enhanced DBS and safeguarding requirements.
