Job Description - Science Teacher

Science Teacher

Dorney, Berks

MPS/UPS + fringe

Sept 2025

A lovely Independent Therapeutic School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their team starting in September 2025. This school is set in lovely rural surroundings in a delightful, listed building.

The class sizes average as six students per class and the atmosphere is always very calm and relaxed which I have observed on my many visits to the school! We have placed many happy teachers at this school, most of which still remain!

About the school: This Therapeutic School is a day special school for boys and girls aged 8 to 18 years, catering to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, including associated challenging behaviours. Many of their pupils have additional special educational needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and speech and language development issues.

Our ethos is built on providing a supportive and inclusive environment where every child is given the tools they need to succeed. We believe in a holistic approach that involves the child, parents/carers, school staff, and other professionals working together to ensure full access to our curriculum.

Our recent Ofsted inspection in March 2024 highlighted the positive changes happening at our school. Ofsted noted that the school environment is thoughtfully designed to re-engage pupils back into education, with a high level of pastoral care leading to positive and trusting relationships. Pupils are motivated, behave well, and are optimistic about their goals and ambitions.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and effective science lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and school events to enhance the overall educational experience.

What They Offer:

  • A supportive and collaborative teaching environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • Access to modern teaching facilities and resources.
  • A vibrant school community with a strong emphasis on student well-being and achievement.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a relevant science subject.
  • Experience teaching science at the secondary level, preferably within a special needs setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for teaching.
