Are you a highly organised, practical, and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supporting scientific learning? A well-established and high-performing secondary school in Cambridge is seeking a committed Science Technician to join their collaborative Science department from January. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, contributing to an academic environment, and supporting the delivery of high-quality Science education across KS3–KS5.
As a Science Technician, you will play a central role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and safe running of the school’s laboratories. Working closely with a friendly team of teachers and fellow technicians, you will support the practical elements of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lessons.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing reagents, equipment, and practical resources for daily lessons
Setting up and clearing away apparatus for demonstrations and student experiments
Ensuring safe storage, accurate labelling, and responsible handling of chemicals
Maintaining laboratory equipment, glassware, and technical machinery
Supporting teachers during practical sessions where appropriate
Helping maintain a safe working environment in line with COSHH, CLEAPSS, and school Health & Safety protocols
Monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and managing an organised prep room
Supporting revision sessions, STEM events, Science fairs, clubs, or enrichment activities
This role would suit someone who thrives in a structured environment but enjoys variety, problem-solving, and contributing to positive educational outcomes. The school welcomes applicants from laboratory, scientific, medical, engineering, or educational backgrounds — as well as graduates or career changers who can demonstrate relevant skills.
This Cambridge school is highly regarded for its strong leadership, positive culture, and consistent academic performance. The Science department is one of the school’s strengths, offering modern laboratories, excellent technician support, and a collaborative team who take pride in delivering engaging and practical Science learning.
The school is:
Supportive and professionally nurturing, with frequent opportunities for training
Well-resourced, ensuring staff can work efficiently and safely
Calm, purposeful, and behaviour-consistent, allowing technical staff to focus properly on prep work
Forward-thinking, promoting both practical science and wider STEM engagement
Colleagues describe the environment as friendly, respectful, and enjoyable, with strong communication across departments and leadership who value the contribution of support staff.
This role is ideal for:
Experienced Science Technicians
Graduates in a Science subject
Lab assistants, STEM professionals, or individuals with industry/lab experience
People with strong organisational skills who enjoy structured routines
Anyone passionate about supporting young people’s scientific development
You will need:
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong awareness of Health & Safety
A proactive, reliable, and positive attitude
Willingness to learn new procedures and technical processes
Competitive depending on experience; term-time only.
Please submit your application with your CV to Natalie Hunter as soon as possible. Early applications are encouraged.
