As a Second Charge Mortgage Underwriter, you’ll manage applications from initial review through to lending decision, balancing strong commercial judgement with fair customer outcomes. You’ll join a collaborative team where quality, pace and attention to detail are genuinely valued—and where there is a clear route into Mortgage Advice, supported by CeMAP funding.

Key Responsibilities Review and underwrite second charge mortgage applications in line with lending policy and regulatory requirements Assess customer circumstances and supporting evidence to make fair, accurate lending decisions Verify application documentation and request additional information where required Maintain precise and up-to-date customer records throughout the underwriting process Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, brokers and internal stakeholders Manage a busy pipeline while maintaining excellent quality and service standards Consistently achieve agreed KPIs, productivity and quality targetsAbout You You’ll be detail-focused, commercially aware and confident making decisions in a fast-paced lending environment. You will ideally have:
At least 12 months’ experience assessing, processing or underwriting loan applications Experience within mortgages, secured lending, consumer finance or a related financial-services environment A proven ability to manage high application volumes while maintaining quality and accuracy Strong attention to detail and excellent data-entry skills The confidence to assess complex customer circumstances and identify appropriate next steps Clear communication skills, both written and verbal A positive, solutions-led approach and the ability to perform in a KPI-driven environmentThis role could be an excellent next step for someone currently working as a Loan Processor, Credit Analyst, Mortgage Advisor, Debt Management Advisor, Loan Officer or Mortgage Underwriter.
