Job Description - Secondary SEN Teacher

SEN Class Teacher - Secondary SEN School - Birmingham
Location: Birmingham
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
Start Date: September 2025
Pay: MPS/UPS - Paid to Scale (PAYE - no umbrella deductions)

Are you ready to take the next step in your teaching career within a setting that truly champions inclusion, structure, and tailored support? We're working with a specialist secondary SEN school in Birmingham that provides high-quality education to students aged 11-19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a range of associated learning needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and reflective teacher who thrives in a calm, consistent environment and is committed to helping neurodiverse learners succeed both academically and personally.

The Role
As a class teacher, you'll lead a small, well-supported group of learners with varied profiles, all of whom have EHCPs. You'll be responsible for designing and delivering differentiated lessons, focusing on communication, functional skills, independence, and emotional development.

You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including support staff, therapists, and senior leaders who are passionate about delivering structured, therapeutic, and pupil-led education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs and EHCP outcomes

  • Foster a calm, consistent classroom environment that supports emotional regulation and learning

  • Use a range of structured communication systems, such as PECs or visual supports

  • Collaborate with support staff to implement positive behaviour strategies and promote engagement

  • Monitor and report on progress, adapting strategies as needed to meet each learner's goals

  • Engage families and wider professionals in the review and development of pupil progress

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential

  • SEN or inclusive teaching experience (preferably within a secondary or specialist setting)

  • Confident teaching students with ASC and additional learning needs

  • Strong behaviour management and classroom structure strategies

  • Reflective, flexible, and collaborative with a commitment to ongoing professional development

  • A calm, empathetic approach with high expectations for every learner

Why Work with Long Term Futures?

  • Access to exclusive SEN teaching roles across Birmingham and the Midlands

  • Transparent PAYE pay - no umbrella deductions or hidden fees

  • Opportunities for long-term roles, with trial days available

  • CPD tailored to special education professionals

  • Ongoing career guidance from experienced SEN consultants who understand your goals

Safeguarding Statement
All applicants must hold (or be willing to apply for) an enhanced DBS check. Long Term Futures is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff to share that commitment.

If you're passionate about supporting young people with autism to thrive in a supportive and structured learning environment, we'd love to hear from you.
