Job Description - Section Manager - Uniformed Services

Section Manager: Uniformed Services
  • Annual Salary: £46,543 - £50,646 per annum
  • Location: Uxbridge
  • Job Type: Full-time, 36 hours per week (Fridays), 52 weeks per year

We are seeking a dedicated Section Manager for Uniformed Services for a well established FE College Group to join their School of Sport, Travel and Public Services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the recruitment, retention, and achievement of students within the designated area of responsibility. The successful candidate will deputise for the Head of School and manage the curriculum and staffing arrangements for mainstream, Work Based Learning, and commercial courses.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the development of the Uniformed Services curriculum, including line management of staff and possibly Work Based Learning provision.
  • Student Recruitment and Retention: Organise recruitment activities, ensure effective guidance and initial assessment of students, and liaise with internal and external teams to enhance recruitment efficiency.
  • Teaching and Program Management: Teach on a range of programmes, coordinate the production of course materials, and oversee the development of an enrichment programme of trips and expeditions.
  • Quality Control and Evaluation: Implement the College’s Quality Policy, ensure appropriate moderation and verification of assessment processes, and analyse performance data to guide improvements.
  • Staff and Resource Management: Prepare course and staff timetables, manage accommodation and staffing resources, and carry out staff appraisal and teaching observations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Educational Background: A degree or Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area. Full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g., DET, PGCE).
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area such as Uniformed Services/Sport. Experience in curriculum management/co-ordination and team leadership.
  • Specific Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, good organisational skills, and proficiency in IT. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to enthuse and inspire learners.
