As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will include:
Providing 1:1 support for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs Supporting small groups with learning, emotional regulation, and confidence-building activities both inside and outside the classroom Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans and behaviour strategies Monitoring student progress, wellbeing, and engagement Promoting a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environmentWhat we look for in an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
Patience, empathy, and resilience Strong communication and de-escalation skills Ability to build trusting relationships with young people An understanding of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, or positive behaviour support A calm, proactive approach to supporting students who may display challenging behaviourThis role provides invaluable experience for psychology, criminology, counselling, social work, and education graduates looking to build a strong foundation for a career supporting children and young people with additional needs.
