A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Salford is seeking a dedicated SEMH Behaviour Mentor to join its supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on building positive relationships and making a genuine impact on children's lives.
The Role
As an SEMH Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life. You will collaborate with teachers, SEND staff and external professionals to deliver tailored interventions and create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs. Provide 1:1 and small-group support to promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour. Implement behaviour support plans and individual strategies consistently. Support pupils during lessons, transitions, breaktimes and other key points throughout the school day. Work alongside teachers to minimise barriers to learning and maximise pupil engagement. Encourage the development of social skills, resilience, confidence and self-esteem. Record progress, monitor behaviour and contribute to review meetings. Liaise effectively with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate. Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, Autism, ADHD or additional learning needs. A calm, resilient and patient approach to behaviour management. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to remain composed and positive in challenging situations. A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children to reach their potential. Experience within a school, alternative provision, youth work, care, residential or mentoring setting is highly desirable. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
