SEMH Learning Mentor (Alternative Provision)

Location: Lancashire (Multi-Site Provision)

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time (Monday to Friday)

Daily Rate: £125.89 - £145.89 per day (dependent on experience)

Setting: Specialist Multi-Site Alternative Provision School (SEMH Focus)

About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives? We are currently recruiting a resilient and compassionate SEMH Learning Mentor to join a dynamic, multi-site specialist alternative provision school across Lancashire.

The school aims to provide each pupil with the necessary support, intervention, and opportunity to meet their learning, pastoral, and social needs, alongside future destinations and career aspirations. We work closely with previous schools, families, and supporting agencies to provide the highest level of care for every learner.

The provision includes specialised pathways across different sites: a primary-model transition approach for Year 7, targeted KS3 and KS4 academic and vocational offers with smaller class sizes, and a pioneering Transition Pathway for KS4 students who have faced significant barriers in previous settings. Regardless of the site or pathway, we focus on re-engaging, motivating, and supporting students to build the skills and confidence they need for successful Post-16 futures.

Key Responsibilities

Targeted Mentoring: Deliver tailored 1-to-1 and small-group mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation, academic progress, and social development.

Positive Behaviour Management: Utilise therapeutic de-escalation strategies and restorative practices to support students through challenging moments.

Collaboration: Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, families, and external support agencies to monitor student development and update support plans.

Building Resilience: Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where disengaged learners feel valued, motivated, and encouraged to succeed.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour. Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, residential care, or alternative provisions are highly desirable.

Skills: Exceptional communication, high emotional resilience, patience, and strong conflict-resolution capabilities.

Commitment: Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, starting ASAP.

Why Join Us?

Competitive Pay: £125.89 - £145.89 per day.

Rewarding Career: Make a tangible, long-lasting impact on vulnerable young people across Lancashire.

Supportive Environment: Join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to staff wellbeing and professional development.

Ready to inspire the next generation? Apply today with your CV to secure your next rewarding role in education.

To express your interest in this ASAP start role, please forward your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience to Christina.
