SEMH Teaching Assistant - Long-Term Full-Time Supply

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour within a supportive primary school.

This rewarding role is ideal for an individual with experience supporting pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support. You will play a vital role in helping the pupil engage positively with learning, develop self-regulation strategies and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

✅ Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with SEMH needs
✅ Use positive behaviour management strategies to support engagement and learning
✅ Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil
✅ Support emotional regulation and the development of coping strategies
✅ Encourage participation in classroom activities and learning opportunities
✅ Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider support staff
✅ Monitor progress and contribute to behaviour and support plans
✅ Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

✔ Has experience working with children with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
✔ Is calm, patient and resilient under pressure
✔ Can build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries
✔ Has strong behaviour management skills
✔ Is passionate about supporting vulnerable pupils to succeed
✔ Has experience in schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care or similar settings (desirable)
✔ Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one
