SEN Class Teacher - Secondary & Sixth Form SEN School - Birmingham
Location: Birmingham (B17)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

Pay: MPS/UPS - Paid to scale via PAYE (no umbrella deductions)

Long Term Futures is working with a well-established special school in Birmingham catering to students aged 11-19 with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and associated learning differences. The school provides a structured, caring environment and is part of a wider trust that champions high-quality, inclusive education for young people with special educational needs.
The Role:
This is a full-time SEN teaching position within a secondary and post-16 setting. You'll take the lead in a small, well-supported class group, delivering highly differentiated lessons tailored to each pupil's EHCP. The role offers the opportunity to foster meaningful progress, independence, and confidence in learners with a wide range of needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, personalised lessons across a variety of ability levels
Maintain a calm, consistent, and supportive classroom environment
Support students with ASD, SEMH, and complex needs using evidence-based approaches
Work closely with therapists, pastoral staff, and families to review and adapt learning plans
Encourage emotional regulation, communication, and independence through a holistic, student-centred approach
Track pupil progress effectively and contribute to annual reviews and reporting
What We're Looking For:
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential
Experience in an SEN or inclusive secondary/post-16 setting is highly desirable
Strong understanding of neurodiversity, emotional development, and curriculum adaptation
Positive behaviour management skills and a collaborative approach
A genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs
