Job Description - SEN Teacher

Title: SEN Teacher

Timings: 8:30am - 4:15pm (varies)

Location: London

Looking for a passionate SEN Teacher to work within a London SEN school. Multiple roles are available including a Science SEN Teacher role, Humanities SEN Teacher role and an SEN Teacher for KS1 + KS2 are all available. SEN expereince is essentialfor all of these roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent delivery, teaching and course leadership to learners across the school.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people we support.
  • Work with pupils to ensure they receive a service that delivers the outcomes specified in their individualised learning, person-centred plans.
  • Prepare and deliver schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments and assessments in line with departmental and awarding body requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with allied health professionals as part of a trans-disciplinary team.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Relevant degree. (For the humanities and science role, this will be essential)
  • Special needs qualification or additional training/experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum and how it translates into teaching and learning activities for young people with special needs.
  • Clear understanding of child development, learning and children with SEN and associated special educational needs.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of excellent practice in terms of; curriculum planning, development, assessment, recording and reporting of pupil progress and outcomes. Including how this might prepare pupils for external examinations, awards or qualifications.
  • Understanding and experience of providing emotional regulation support and using pro-active strategies to reduce dysregulation and behaviours of distress; and/or a commitment to increase own personal knowledge in this area of evidence-based approaches.
  • Good understanding and experience of managing health and safety arrangements in the workplace and off-site/beyond the classroom.
  • Knowledge of inclusion and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in relation to the role of class teacher.
