Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

Horizon Teachers is seeking a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 and small groups across all Key Stages. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with learners who have complex needs, many of whom are non-verbal and require full-time, tailored support.

Key responsibilities

Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs
Assist pupils with personal care, feeding, and mobility support (e.g., hoisting or wheelchair use)
Support class teachers in delivering an adapted, sensory-based curriculum
Use communication tools such as Makaton, symbols, signs, AAC devices
Help create a calm, safe, and engaging learning environment that promotes both independence and communication

We are looking for?

Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, complex medical needs, or non-verbal communication in school, care, or home settings
The emotional intelligence to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Confidence with personal care, manual handling, and feeding
Desirable: Experience using hoists, AAC devices, or supporting with therapies
