Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: B61 (Bromsgrove)
Pay Rate: £460 - £500 per week
Contract: Full-time, long-term with the potential to become permanent
Start Date: ASAP

Are you an enthusiastic and caring Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs? Long Term Futures are working closely with a welcoming, Ofsted-rated 'Good' primary school in B61 who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This role will involve providing both 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils with Autism (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and non-verbal communication. Experience with Makaton, PECs, or similar communication strategies would be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN

  • Use tools such as Makaton and PECs to aid communication and understanding

  • Support pupils with Autism, SLCN and non-verbal needs

  • Collaborate with class teachers and the SENCo to follow personalised learning plans

  • Encourage independence, self-confidence, and positive behaviour management

  • Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment

Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within a school setting

  • Understanding and practical use of Makaton and PECs (desirable)

  • Experience supporting children with Autism, SLCN or non-verbal communication

  • A patient, calm, and empathetic approach to support

  • Team player with strong communication skills

  • Relevant TA qualification or SEN training is an advantage
