SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Secondary School, London Borough of Newham Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and ambitious secondary school in Newham. This is an exciting opportunity to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and help them achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
You will work closely with the SENCo, teaching staff and external professionals to provide tailored support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH and learning difficulties
Assist in implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
Support students in accessing the curriculum across a range of subjects
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
Help create an inclusive, supportive and safe learning environment
Liaise effectively with teachers, parents and external agencies where required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with young people with SEND, ideally in a secondary school setting
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
