Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Area: Northampton
  • Start date: September 2024
  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent or Temp to Perm
  • Salary: Competitive, Dependent on experience with SEN allowance

A highly reputable SEN School Group is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join the permanent staff list of their independent special school in Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a nurturing and supportive environment, helping to make a real difference in the lives of students with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to the needs of SEN students.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide targeted interventions to support student progress.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and well-being.
  • Assist with the preparation of classroom materials and resources.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and other professionals.
  • Promote positive behavior and support the social and emotional development of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to support the holistic development of students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEN setting.
  • Understanding of SEN teaching strategies and familiarity with the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn and grow in the role.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Additional qualifications or training in SEN education.
  • Experience in using assistive technology and innovative teaching resources to support SEN learners.
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities and a willingness to contribute to the wider school community.
  • A creative and flexible approach to teaching and learning.
