Job Description - SEN Teaching Assistant (PERMANENT)

SEN Teaching Assistant - Permanent

  • Location: Derby
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Pay Rate: £22,102.72 - £23,621.50 (FTE £25,729.60 - £28,059.60)
  • Start Date: 1st May 2025 (can be earlier)
  • Positions Available: 3

Due to open summer 2025, Ryefields is a brand-new, purpose-built special school in Derby, dedicated to providing outstanding education and support for children and young people with ASC and SEMH needs. Our vision is to create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where every child can achieve their full potential.

As part of the Ryefields team, you’ll play a key role in creating a positive and inclusive school culture right from the start

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Provide specialist learning support to individuals, small groups, or children with additional needs.
  • Encourage the inclusion and acceptance of all students.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Liaise with specialist services, such as educational psychologists and speech therapists.
  • Offer feedback to students on progress and achievement.
  • Support the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating, and adjusting lessons as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities.
  • Contribute to behaviour management within the school.
  • Implement agreed learning activities and teaching programmes.
  • Support students in accessing learning activities through specialist support.
  • Supervise students on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a SEND or educational setting (desirable but not essential).
  • A passion for supporting children with ASC and SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, are desirable but not essential.
