Job Description - SENCO

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have the drive to inspire, motivate, and support students to achieve their full potential? If so, we are looking for a dedicated SENCO to join our dynamic team!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Development: Lead the strategic development of SEN policy and provision, ensuring it aligns with the school improvement plan.
  • Quality Monitoring: Maintain a strategic overview of SEN provision, monitoring and reviewing its quality.
  • Guidance and Support: Provide expert guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEN, and advise on SEN support approaches.
  • Collaboration: Work with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and external agencies.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse assessment data for pupils with SEN to inform effective interventions.
  • Intervention Leadership: Implement and lead intervention groups, evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Parental Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents or carers, ensuring their involvement in their child's education.

Core Requirements:

  • Safeguarding: Adhere to safeguarding policies, ensuring the welfare of all pupils.
  • Equality and Diversity: Maintain an awareness of equality and diversity in relation to pupils, staff, and visitors.
  • Professional Conduct: Role model professional conduct and presentation at all times.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of your work.

Person Specification:

  • Education: Qualified Teacher status (Pre or Post 16); National Award for SEN (desirable).
  • Experience: Experience in SENCO role, safeguarding, multiagency working, and working with children and families.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of SEN Code of Practice, relevant education legislation, and Ofsted requirements.
  • Personal Qualities: Flexible, approachable, resilient, professional, and able to maintain a good sense of humour.
  • Attitudes: Positive, energetic, committed to the vision and values of our institution, and dedicated to continuous professional development.
