Job Description - SENCo

SENCO – Evolution and Henslow School

Location: Shropshire

Salary: Up to £46,280 per annum

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Join an Exceptional, Inclusive School

The Evolution and Henslow School is a highly inclusive, trauma‑informed setting recently praised by OFSTED as “exceptional” in its approach to inclusion. Our work is rooted in bespoke, personalised education that ensures every learner is genuinely seen, understood and supported to thrive.

As our new SENCO, you will lead SEND strategy across both our primary site in Bicton (ages 5–11) and secondary site near Middletown (ages 11–18). You will play a key role in shaping practice, supporting colleagues and ensuring our learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs receive the very best provision.

Why Join Us?

  • A deeply nurturing school culture built around relational and trauma‑informed practice

  • Exceptionally dedicated and skilled staff team

  • Strong, supportive leadership with a genuine commitment to SEND excellence

  • Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth

  • A role with real influence across two unique and inspiring sites

About the Role

As SENCO, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for strategic oversight and delivery of SEND provision across the school.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership

  • Leading the school’s SEND strategy and driving best practice across both sites

  • Ensuring EHCPs are robust, regularly reviewed and fully embedded into daily practice

  • Managing the SEND budget and commissioning appropriate resources and interventions

Quality of Education & Assessment

  • Supporting staff to adapt teaching and curriculum pathways to meet diverse learner needs

  • Coordinating SEND assessment, interventions, tracking and reviews

  • Overseeing and assessing access arrangements for examinations (training available if required)

Team Leadership & Development

  • Line‑managing the 1:1 support team and modelling calm, confident, relational practice

  • Leading staff training on SEND, SEMH, trauma‑informed approaches and specific learner needs

  • Supporting multi‑agency working with local authorities, carers and external professionals

School Improvement

  • Contributing to the design of a bespoke, holistic curriculum

  • Sharing and developing best practice with other schools and networks

  • Being a key part of the school’s constant self-evaluation cycle

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an emotionally intelligent, ambitious and compassionate leader who is passionate about bespoke education for learners with SEMH needs.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it

  • Significant experience supporting learners with SEMH needs, preferably in a trauma‑informed environment

  • Proven experience coordinating SEND provision across a school

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with learners, families and professionals

  • Resilience, creativity, flexibility – and a sense of fun

Ready to Make a Difference?

We warmly encourage interested candidates to contact the Head Teacher, Jacqui Brooks, to arrange a tour and informal conversation.

Email: [email protected]

Closing date: 22nd May 2026

Safeguarding Statement

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
