Lead Teacher of SEND – Permanent Opportunity
Location: Barnsley
Start Date: September 2025 or sooner
Salary: £31,650 - £49,084 (plus TLR, plus SEN allowance)

Reed Education is proud to be working in partnership with a well-respected specialist provision in Barnsley, currently rated 'Good' by Ofsted with 'Outstanding' for behaviour. The successful candidate will take on a key leadership role at one of the trust’s satellite sites, which caters for pupils with a combination of communication and interaction needs. The provision supports children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and focuses on tailored, therapeutic approaches that enable pupils to thrive both academically and emotionally.

About the School

Our client is a specialist school, providing education for pupils aged 3-11 with a range of complex SEND, including:

• Autism spectrum conditions (ASC)
• Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
• Speech, language and communication (SLCN) needs
• Sensory processing difficulties
• Developmental delays and cognition and learning needs

The Role

• Lead and deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching for pupils with a range of complex needs, particularly around autism and SEMH.
• Oversee classroom provision, support staff development, and model best practice in teaching and behaviour management.
• Implement a variety of specialist strategies, including PECS, AAC, Makaton, Attention Autism and therapeutic approaches tailored to SEMH needs.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to ensure EHCP outcomes are met.
• Contribute to whole-school development and play an active role in shaping the ongoing success of the provision.

The ideal candidate will…

• Have prior experience teaching in a specialist setting or supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream environment.
• Be confident using a range of communication strategies to support pupils with complex needs.
• Have strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and experience adapting it to suit diverse learning needs.
• Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners.
• Be creative and flexible in their teaching pedagogy.
• Be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be resilient, compassionate, and ready to go the extra mile for their pupils.
