Job Description - SEND Resolution and Tribunal Officer
3 months contract with a local authority
Summary
The Resolution and Tribunal Officer is a critical role responsible for managing Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) tribunal appeals. This position ensures compliance with statutory requirements and aims to achieve timely and effective resolutions. The officer will coordinate mediations, represent the Local Authority (LA) at tribunal hearings, and collaborate with key stakeholders to resolve disputes in the best interests of children and young people.
Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of SEND tribunal appeals, ensuring all deadlines and statutory requirements are met.
Prepare and submit responses and documentation to the First-tier Tribunal in a timely and accurate manner.
Coordinate and facilitate mediation processes to resolve disputes, reducing the need for formal hearings.
Represent the Local Authority at tribunal hearings, presenting cases effectively and professionally.
Liaise closely with parents, carers, young people, legal representatives, advocates, and educational settings.
Work collaboratively with internal teams, including SEN, legal, and education professionals.
Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date case records and documentation.
Essential Experience
Proven experience managing SEND tribunals or similar legal/appeals processes.
Experience working within a Local Authority or public sector environment.
Experience liaising with multiple stakeholders, including families and legal teams.
Experience preparing tribunal documentation and representing cases.
Essential Qualifications
Relevant degree or professional qualification in law, education, social care, or a related field â desirable.
Evidence of continued professional development in SEND, legal processes, or dispute resolution â desirable.
Additional Information
Working hours: 37 hours per week.
Ideally, 1 day a week in the office, if possible, otherwise working virtually.
