SEND Youth Mentor / Support Staff - Specialist Education Setting

Location: BL0, Bury
Job Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Hours: Term Time Only
Pay: £110-£120 per day (depending on experience)

We are recruiting for a SEND Youth Mentor / Support Staff member to join a specialist education setting in the BL0 area of Bury. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated additional needs.

The setting provides a structured and engaging learning environment designed to help students develop academically, socially and emotionally. Staff work closely together to deliver consistent support, promote independence and help students achieve their individual goals.

The Role

As a SEND Youth Mentor / Support Staff member, you will support students throughout the school day, both in and out of the classroom. You will encourage engagement in learning, promote positive behaviour and help students develop communication, social and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with autism and additional needs.
Assist students in accessing learning activities and following daily routines.
Implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual support plans.
Support the development of communication, social interaction and independence.
Work alongside teachers and therapists to meet individual learning objectives.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records where required.
Support students during breaktimes, educational activities and school trips where appropriate.
Promote a safe, structured and positive learning environment.

Requirements

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or additional needs is desirable.
Candidates with transferable experience from youth work, residential care, support work, mentoring, coaching, care settings or mental health services are encouraged to apply.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in challenging situations.
Reliable, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a team.
A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.

Essential

Enhanced DBS Certificate for Child and Adult Workforce, registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
Right to work in the UK.
