Job Description - SEND Teacher - Permanent

Job Description:

We are seeking a passionate, skilled, and empathetic SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Teacher to join our dedicated team. In this vital role, you will design and implement personalised learning programmes that meet the diverse needs of students with SEND, enabling each pupil to achieve their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.
You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including support staff, specialists, and families, to ensure an inclusive, supportive, and high-quality learning environment for every child in your care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific learning and developmental needs of each pupil.
  • Provide high-quality, differentiated teaching to students with a variety of SEND, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), speech and language impairments, and other learning or developmental challenges.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all pupils.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that promotes emotional wellbeing, confidence, and independence.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupils’ progress, regularly reviewing and updating IEPs in collaboration with colleagues and parents.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, external therapists (such as speech and language or occupational therapists), educational psychologists, and other professionals to provide a holistic approach to pupil support.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers, keeping them informed of their child's progress and involving them in the learning journey.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures and maintain accurate, confidential pupil records in line with school policies and the SEND Code of Practice.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK (or equivalent recognized qualification).
  • Proven experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current educational legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, parents, and professionals.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive, patient, and flexible approach to teaching, with a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
  • Experience with strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration is desirable but not essential.
