Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEN School

Blackstone Recruitment are currently recruiting Teaching Assistants to join a new specialist SEN school supporting pupils with a strong focus on autism and complex additional needs.
As a new and growing specialist provision, this is an exciting opportunity for Teaching Assistants to join at an early stage and contribute to the development of the school, its curriculum and its wider classroom community.
About the role
We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants who are confident supporting pupils with autism, complex needs, communication difficulties and/or behaviours that challenge.
You will work closely with teachers and the wider specialist team to provide high-quality support both in and outside the classroom.
Depending on your experience, the role may involve supporting pupils with:
* Autism and associated communication needs
* Complex and additional learning needs
* Non-speaking pupils and alternative communication methods
* Sensory regulation and sensory needs
* Behavioural and emotional regulation
* Personal care and physical needs
* Individualised and adapted learning
* Developing independence and life skills
The school is particularly interested in TAs who genuinely understand specialist education and are comfortable working as part of a close classroom team.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate will have:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
* Experience supporting pupils with autism and/or complex needs
* A calm, patient and consistent approach
* The ability to build positive relationships with pupils
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Confidence supporting pupils with additional communication or sensory needs
* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
Experience with AAC, PECS, intensive interaction, sensory support, PMLD/SLD or specialist communication approaches would be particularly advantageous.
