Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant Job Overview

• Take ownership of your own client portfolio, ensuring outstanding client service.
• Prepare draft financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies for managerial review.
• Complete draft business tax computations, ready for the tax manager's review.
• Assist partners in finalising client meetings, including preparation of assignment highlight documentation.
• Attend client finalisation meetings alongside partners and provide necessary support.
• Conduct external audits from planning to completion.
• Review junior team members' work, providing constructive feedback to maintain quality and accuracy.
• Sign off final accounts for limited companies.
• Respond to bookkeeping, taxation, and general accounting queries from clients; escalate as needed.
• Prepare ad-hoc management accounts for clients as required.
• Plan and manage own workload effectively to meet deadlines and ensure timely sign-off.
• Maintain accurate client files and documentation in line with internal standards and deadlines.
• Record chargeable time and ensure the recovery of all billable hours.
• Support and mentor junior staff, answering queries and fostering professional growth.
• Utilise various accounting platforms including SAP, IRIS, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage Line 50, and CCH Central.

Senior Accountant Job Requirements

• ACA or ACCA qualified with solid experience in a practice environment.
• Proven experience managing a client portfolio and building client relationships.
• Confident preparing and reviewing statutory accounts and business tax computations.
• Skilled in external audit procedures (advantageous) and finalising accounts.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities to support junior colleagues.
• Comfortable managing client meetings and delivering tailored advice.
• Proficient with a range of accounting software and cloud-based platforms.

Senior Accountant Salary & Benefits

• Salary: £39,000- £44,000
• Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (8:30 AM - 5 PM, flexible with a 1-hour lunch)
• Holidays: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + 3 additional days over Christmas
• Location: Leeds - Free on-site parking
• Pension
