About the Role:

On behalf of our client, a growing and reputable civil engineering contractor, we are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join their commercial team. This is a key strategic hire and represents a genuine progression opportunity into a Purchasing Manager role for the right individual.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services across a portfolio of infrastructure projects, ensuring best value and commercial compliance.

Senior Buyer

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage procurement activities for live and upcoming civil engineering projects.
• Source, negotiate, and procure materials, plant, and subcontractor packages in line with project timelines and budgets.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing and service levels.
• Evaluate supplier proposals, terms, and lead times to support project delivery teams.
• Monitor market trends and seek opportunities for value engineering and cost reduction.
• Collaborate closely with estimators and project managers during tender and delivery phases.
• Maintain accurate procurement records, PO logs, and supplier performance reports.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of improved procurement strategies and systems.
• Support and mentor junior buyers or procurement assistants as the team grows.

Senior Buyer

Candidate Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Buyer or Senior Buyer within the civil engineering, construction, or infrastructure sector.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with a strong commercial mindset.
• Solid understanding of construction materials, plant hire, and subcontract procurement.
• Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office tools (ERP system knowledge beneficial).
• Relevant qualification in procurement, construction, or supply chain management (CIPS or working toward is an advantage).
