The role

We are looking for a Senior Heat Network Engineer / Consultant to join our Heat in Buildings team.We are keen to hear from you if your heat network background is in engineering design, modelling or policy.

The team

Our 35-strong Heat Decarbonisation team comprises of engineers, consultants and project managers, specialising in low carbon heat technologies, heat networks, decarbonisation of heat in buildings, bioenergy, industrial heat decarbonisation and CCUS/BECCS. This team is at the forefront of delivering heat decarbonisation solutions in the UK and internationally, from working with governments to develop policy, to implementation of low carbon heat solutions in the public and private sectors.

Key responsibilities

From day one, you will be part of a team supporting the delivery of heat network and heat decarbonisation projects to our clients. Occasional site attendance will be expected. Successful applicants will have strong numeracy, analytical and communication skills together with a proactive, organised approach and a pride in the quality of their work. You will have familiarity with CIBSE/ADE CP1 but we will support you towards chartership and further professional growth. In turn you will encourage a learning culture within the team, supporting junior colleagues in their own development.

Examples of projects you may be working on include

• Heat network zoning.
• Heat network masterplan mapping and feasibility.
• Support to government in development of policy and regulation relating to heat.
• Employer’s engineer role for network development.
• Heat decarbonisation planning.
• Capacity building.

Essential

• A degree in mechanical, chemical or electrical engineering.

• Post-graduate experience working in an energy consultancy environment.
• Professional experience in at least one core aspect of heat networks with familiarity with CIBSE/ADE CP1.
• Strong skills in data manipulation and management.
• Some experience in managing complex projects.
• Passion for decarbonisation.
• The ability to effectively communicate and interact with colleagues and clients.
• The ability to breakdown complex questions, think creatively and solve novel problems.
• Commitment to becoming a chartered professional.

Desirable

• Experience in modelling software and graphical tools; GIS, EnergyPro, Hydraulic modelling packages, AutoCad, Revit, Bluebeam and similar.
• Techno-economic modelling skills.
• Experience with construction deliverables, site inspection and witnessing of commissioning.
• GHNF or HNES experience.
• Demonstrable progress towards chartership.
