The Role
As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will take technical responsibility for the design, implementation, testing, and commissioning of PLC and HMI/SCADA-based control systems across the full project lifecycle. This is an ownership-driven role where you’ll contribute daily through hands-on engineering, reviews, and site support.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering detailed design, implementation, testing and commissioning of control systems to project requirements Owning assigned control system deliverables to a high standard of quality and technical accuracy Configuring PLC software, control philosophies and system configurations using industry-standard platforms Developing simulator applications to support verification and testing of PLC software Supporting integration with electrical, mechanical, and wider engineering disciplines Producing high-quality control system documentation (including functional/detailed design specifications, test specifications, O&M manuals, training materials, and rebuild/recovery documentation) Reviewing and checking design documentation and software produced by others Planning and executing formal verification and validation testing (FAT, customer witness testing/CAT, and site acceptance/commissioning) Undertaking complex fault-finding and troubleshooting during in-house testing and site activities Supporting programme delivery with estimates for scope changes and input to schedules Ensuring compliance with safety, quality and performance requirements, including documentation required for CDM regulationsYou will have the following qualifications & experience:
An HND or Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Control Systems, Automation) or equivalent experience Proven experience designing and implementing PLC-based control systems Expert knowledge of IEC 61131 PLC languages, PLC hardware/software and industrial communication protocols Extensive experience delivering full lifecycle projects: design, implementation, testing and commissioning Proven experience with formal testing/verification activities, including simulator tool/application use where applicable Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability across complex control systems Ability to interpret electrical and control system design drawings Excellent written/verbal communication and strong documentation skills Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within an integrated team Understanding of compliance and producing reports/documentation required for CDM regulationsIf this sounds like your next technical challenge, don’t wait—contact Gill James at Millbank, to apply or find out more.
