Senior Control System Engineer (Valve cooling)

Full Time Permanent Hire/Contract Key Skills: Control, HVDC, Valve, cooling, PLC, VFD, VSD Requirements:
Educated to degree level in Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Control Engineering or Computer Sciences
Provide cooling systems controls support and expertise to tendering for future HVDC schemes.
Provide cooling systems controls support to the implementation, testing, installation, commissioning and customer acceptance of HVDC cooling systems.
Experience in control system design and application for motor drives
Reviewing suppliers PLC, VFD and VSD control systems as required by the relevant project.
Liaise with cooling system suppliers to achieve lowest cost and functional control systems
Candidates should have experience of the design and/or development of the control system, control system for cooling plants are preferred but not essential.
Practical experience with industrial control systems
Good understanding of software and control systems development life cycle
Experience in Safety Systems development will be advantageous
Risk analysis
EHS awareness Technical Experience
Understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, circuit diagrams, process diagrams
Experience in using PLC programming languages, e.g. ladder logic and function blocks
Experience in use of scripting languages, e.g. Perl, Python
Experience in programming in structured languages, e.g. C, C++, VB
Knowledge of support applications, e.g. version control, bug reporting, change control systems Responsibilities
As Control Engineer, you will report to the Design Team Leader within the HVDC Valve Converter Engineering Team.
The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and rapidly growing team of engineers working on the project activities related to HVDC applications.
The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to innovate, expand their design skill and personal development within an internationally recognised expert in this exciting field.
The candidate may be educated to degree level in control systems or a similar discipline.
However, a proven track record and evidence of industry experience and abilities to perform the role are of equal value.
It is key that the candidate has the ability to work quickly and efficiently within an engineering team.
Interpreting client technical requirements and creating control system specifications that are compliant
Supporting the other disciplines in the cooling team with the specification and review of the cooling plant systems provided by external suppliers, including pump skids, treatment skids, expansion skids and heat exchangers
Work with other departments within HVDC to improve and refine the specification and design of future cooling system controls to align with developments within other systems, for example the interfaces to the converter control system.
Provide cooling system controls expertise to other initiatives within PES, such a Digital Solutions, Asset Programme management and Digital Twin.
Provide control systems training, documentation and support to project teams and customers as required.
Make decisions (often under pressure), and make sure that those decisions are communicated, understood, and, ultimately, implemented.
Communicate effectively with other stakeholders, such as cooling team members, valves converter engineers, converter control systems teams and project team members, to understand their needs and to ensure that the defined controls systems meet their requirements.
Expect to work on multiple tasks and initiatives concurrently.
Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, designs and systems.
Prepare formal engineering documentation (e.g. reports, specs, technical notes etc) for approval by others.
