Senior Controls Engineer - Up to £65,000 + Company Car + Overtime | Midlands (Local Travel Only)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to take ownership of automation and controls projects for a well-established engineering firm. Working with a variety of PLC platforms and robotics systems, this role acts as the bridge between technical execution and commercial delivery.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can lead by example, develop junior staff, and work independently without the need for micromanagement. Most clients are based within a 1.5-hour radius of Coventry, and local travel is required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop PLC software from first principles (5+ years' experience required)

• Work across multiple platforms including Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.

• Write and validate safety software in line with safety matrix requirements

• Develop servo drive motion control systems

• Integrate robotic systems (KUKA, ABB, FANUC)

• Act as the interface between the Sales Director and Controls Engineering team

• Produce technical documentation, including FDS, O&M manuals, and more

• Support and mentor junior engineers to support skills development

Requirements:

• Proven background in manufacturing (chemical preferred, but automotive, food, pharma, aerospace or logistics also considered)

• Strong understanding of PLCs, safety systems, and motion control

• Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical documentation standards

• Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience

• Monday to Friday daytime hours (8:30am-4:00pm)

• Overtime paid at 1.3x on Saturdays, 1.5x on Sundays
