Senior Corporate Health & Safety Adviser 📍 Newham, East London 💰 £400 to £450 per day (Umbrella) - Inside IR35 🏢 Hybrid Working: 2 Days Per Week in the Office (Tuesday & Wednesday) 📅 Initial 4-Month Contract with potential permanent opportunities
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Corporate Health & Safety Adviser to join the London Borough of Newham on an interim basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping and driving health and safety excellence across one of London's most diverse and ambitious local authorities. Based within the Community Safety and Integrated Enforcement service, you will lead on corporate health and safety initiatives, ensuring robust compliance, effective risk management, and a positive safety culture across council services.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation and review of corporate health and safety policies, procedures and strategies. Manage and mentor a team of two Corporate Health & Safety Advisers. Provide expert health and safety advice to senior leadership teams, directors and key stakeholders. Design and deliver organisation-wide H&S improvement programmes and corporate audits. Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring lessons learned are implemented. Monitor and report on H&S performance, producing detailed reports and recommendations for senior management. Represent the Council in internal and external forums and deputise for the Head of Corporate Health & Safety when required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Significant health and safety management experience within a complex public sector or large corporate environment. Comprehensive knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including HASAWA and associated regulations. Experience managing and developing H&S professionals. Strong auditing, investigation, reporting and stakeholder management skills. A recognised Level 6 H&S qualification (such as the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent). Chartered IOSH membership (CMIOSH) or be working towards chartered status. ISO 45001 Auditor or Lead Auditor qualification desirable.
