Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience)
An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Flood Risk Engineer to join its growing civil engineering team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to take a lead role in the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) designs for a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments across the UK.
Working alongside civil, structural and environmental specialists, you will manage projects from initial feasibility through to planning and detailed design while supporting the development of junior engineers within the team.
The Role
Lead the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) for a wide range of development projects. Produce drainage strategies and detailed surface water management solutions in accordance with current UK standards. Design Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) using industry best practice and national guidance. Undertake hydraulic modelling and drainage calculations using InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or similar software. Liaise with the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, water companies and planning authorities throughout the development process. Manage multiple projects, ensuring programmes, budgets and technical quality standards are achieved. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers. Attend client meetings and represent the business in technical discussions. Support business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.
Requirements
Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. 5+ years' experience within flood risk and drainage engineering in a UK consultancy environment. Strong experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies for planning applications. Excellent understanding of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), SuDS guidance and UK drainage standards. Proficiency with InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or equivalent drainage design software. Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D would be advantageous. Strong project management and client-facing skills. Working towards or already professionally qualified (ICE or CIWEM) would be beneficial. Full UK driving licence preferred.
