An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing Wigan office. This is a design-focused role, ideal for someone with 5-7 years' UK consultancy experience looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects and progress towards principal level.

The Role

You will play a key role in delivering geotechnical design solutions across a range of infrastructure and development projects, working from concept through to detailed design.

Key responsibilities:

Undertake geotechnical design including foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and earthworks
Interpret ground investigation data and develop ground models
Produce and review design calculations in line with Eurocodes and UK standards
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
Support and mentor junior engineers
Contribute to project planning and delivery

Requirements

Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology
5-7 years' experience in a geotechnical design role (consultancy preferred)
Strong understanding of UK standards and Eurocodes
Experience with design software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar
Proven experience in foundation design, retaining structures, and slope stability
Strong communication and report writing skills

Desirable

Working towards Chartership (ICE, GeolSoc or similar)
Experience on infrastructure or large-scale development projects
