The Company:

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) is the UK’s leading trade association for the plastics industry and one of the longest-running plastics trade associations in the world. Its 600-plus member companies span the whole supply chain including polymer producers and suppliers, additive manufacturers, processors, recyclers, machinery and equipment suppliers, and service providers and together account for over 80% of the industry by turnover.

The UK plastics industry is a major part of the UK’s manufacturing base, with around 5,700 businesses, annual sales of over £30 billion and some 145,000 people directly employed. Plastics are consistently among the UK’s top ten exports.

The BPF exists to help its members grow, innovate and stay competitive. It represents the industry to government, regulators and the media; keeps members informed on legislation, standards and markets; and brings companies together through its specialist product and sector groups, expert committees and events.

The Role:

* BPF’s lead specialist for the plastics processing sectors represented by the Moulders & Specialist Processors Group, the Rotational Moulders Group and the Automotive Forum, and for the commercial, technical and regulatory issues that affect them.

* Lead and develop these two member groups and forum, acting as the main day-to-day contact for their chairs and member companies, identifying the issues that matter most to members and driving the BPF’s response.

* Offers wide contact with the plastics industry at senior level and close engagement with the automotive supply chain.

* Involves travel to member sites, meetings across the UK and occasional meetings/trade shows overseas.

* As a senior member of the team, the postholder will work with a high degree of autonomy, shape the work programme for each group, contribute to BPF-wide policy positions, and play an active part in retaining and growing the BPF’s membership.

The Person:

* Minimum four years’ experience in the plastics or wider manufacturing industry, a trade association, or an industrial / government affairs role

* Degree (2:1 or equivalent) in a business-related or technical discipline (e.g. chemistry, materials science, polymers, engineering), or equivalent professional experience

* Experience of moulding, rotational moulding or the automotive supply chain is highly desirable

* Proven experience of managing relationships with members, customers or stakeholders at senior level

* Able to research, interpret and summarise regulatory and technical information clearly for a business audience

* Capable of presenting both technical and business issues to a range of audiences

* Capable of co-ordinating and managing projects to conclusion, working under pressure and to deadlines
