The Canterbury District Intelligence Unit supports and informs Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Intelligence Analyst to join our team based at Christchurch Central. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic operating environment. From organised crime and illicit drug harm to rural crime, major events, community harm reduction initiatives, and critical incident support, no two days are the same. Our analysts work closely with decision-makers at all levels and have meaningful opportunities to shape operational responses, inform strategic priorities, and contribute to safer communities across the district.

As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will be highly proficient in a wide range of analytical tools, techniques and methodology. You will use your advanced critical thinking skills to provide insight and foresight on complex problems. Using proactive and innovative approaches, you will identify opportunities to add value, improve understanding and reduce uncertainty for our decision makers.

In addition to exhibiting strong intelligence, tradecraft and analytical expertise, you will be an engaged and positive team member who values collaboration, continuous improvement, and shared success. A Senior Intelligence Analyst plays a significant role in developing intelligence capability, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to continuous improvement across intelligence products, processes, and practices.

The successful candidate will be a highly effective written and verbal communicator, capable of translating complex analytical findings into clear, meaningful insights. Proven experience influencing decision-makers and establishing sustainable, effective partnerships will be essential.

Key Accountabilities:

• Apply analytical expertise, critical thinking and crime science principles to identify, assess, and solve complex crime and harm problems.


• Independently deliver high-quality intelligence outputs and complex analytical projects, managing competing priorities effectively.


• Provide technical leadership, mentoring analysts and promoting best-practice intelligence tradecraft.


• Build strong stakeholder relationships and communicate intelligence findings through clear reports, briefings, and presentations.


• Lead by example, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture while supporting continuous improvement, professional development, and high-performance delivery.


• Champion diverse worldviews, perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring these are appropriately reflected in all intelligence outputs.

Previous experience working in Intelligence is essential. We are seeking an experienced and highly capable intelligence professional who can operate confidently at a senior level, demonstrate sound judgement, provide leadership and guidance to others, and deliver high-quality intelligence products and advice in complex environments.

Resilience, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, is also important, as we are required to maintain high-quality outcomes in dynamic and time-critical environments.

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to this role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

• Successful applicants must reside in Christchurch. Some travel may be required.


• Ability to work weekends or evenings when operational demand requires.


• NZ or Australian citizen or a permanent NZ resident.

To be eligible for this role, you must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance. 

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or: 

• A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or


• A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $103,836 and $109,983 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
