Senior Legal Counsel

We're recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel to join Royal London, where you'll play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice and trusted counsel across our UK business. This is a highly visible role that combines commercial thinking, influential stakeholder engagement, and the opportunity to help shape key business decisions while managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk. 

Working closely with senior leaders and business teams, you'll be a trusted partner who delivers pragmatic, solutions-focused advice across a broad range of matters with a particular focus on pensions. We're particularly interested in hearing from candidates who thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy building strong relationships across a complex organisation 

About the role

  Acting as a trusted legal adviser to business areas across Royal London.

  Providing proactive, commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of matters but with a particular focus on pensions.

  Supporting strategic business initiatives, corporate projects and regulatory change. 

  
  

• 
  

  Drafting, negotiating and advising on complex legal agreements and transactions. 

  
  

• 
  

  Managing relationships with external legal providers and ensuring high-quality, cost-effective legal support. 

  
  

• 
  

  Building strong partnerships with stakeholders and helping the business achieve its goals while appropriately managing legal risk.  

  
  

About you

  Qualified solicitor with experience gained within pensions, financial services, either in-house or private practice.

  Strong experience providing strategic and proactive legal advice to business stakeholders.

  Demonstrable experience partnering with senior leaders and building trusted relationships across a complex organisation. 

  
  

• 
  

  Experience advising on legal, regulatory and reputational risk within a regulated financial services environment. 

  
  

• 
  

  Experience providing pragmatic and solutions-focussed pensions legal advice. 

  
  

• 
  

  Experience working within UK financial services and navigating a regulated environment. 

  
  

• 
  

  Ability to provide pragmatic, commercially focused solutions while balancing legal and business risk. 

  
  

• 
  

  Strong communication and influencing skills, with confidence engaging stakeholders at all levels.
