Role Summary

The successful candidate will provide specialist technical knowledge across Council Tax, Business Rates and Business Improvement District (BID) levies, supporting billing, collection, recovery and enforcement activities. The role will involve providing expert advice, managing complex cases and contributing to service improvements that enhance customer experience and operational performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced revenues professional to join a busy team and play a key role in ensuring accurate and effective local taxation services.

What You Will Do As A Senior Local Taxation Officer

- Provide expert advice and guidance on Council Tax, Business Rates and BID regulations.
- Support the billing, collection, monitoring, recovery and enforcement of local taxation accounts.
- Undertake administrative and financial tasks using relevant revenues systems to ensure accurate processing and account management.
- Assist with annual billing and year-end processes, ensuring deadlines and statutory requirements are met.
- Review discounts, exemptions and reliefs, undertaking analytical and investigative work to maximise income collection.
- Manage complex enquiries, complaints and customer cases relating to billing and collection activities.
- Prepare information and represent the service at Valuation Tribunal hearings where required.
- Support recovery proceedings, including preparing cases and attending court where necessary.
- Produce management information, reports and support the completion of statutory returns.
- Review and improve online customer services, webpages and digital processes to enhance customer experience.
- Communicate complex taxation information clearly to customers, stakeholders and internal teams.

What You Will Need As A Senior Local Taxation Officer

- Strong experience working within a Revenues, Local Taxation or Council Tax environment.
- Detailed knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates and BID legislation, regulations and processes.
- Experience managing complex taxation enquiries, investigations and recovery cases.
- Ability to interpret legislation and provide clear technical advice to a range of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to review information, identify issues and deliver solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Experience using revenues systems and producing accurate reports and management information.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
