Location: Ealing, West London (W5 2HL), Hybrid Working - 2 days office / 3 days remote
Hourly rate £23.05 PAYE / £30.09 Umbrella per hour
Contract Length: 3 -month contract (possibility of extension)
Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 35 hours

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Senior Local Welfare Assistance Officer to support the delivery of essential welfare and support services to residents.
This is an exciting opportunity to take responsibility for the day-to-day administration and operational oversight of a team of Local Welfare Assistance Officers, ensuring the effective delivery of the Council's Crisis Resilience Fund, including housing-related support payments. You will play a key role in helping vulnerable residents access financial assistance and travel-related concessions while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of a team of Local Welfare Assistance Officers. Oversee the administration of the Crisis Resilience Fund, including housing support payments and other discretionary assistance schemes. Provide technical guidance and support to officers on complex welfare assistance cases. Support the team in processing and managing customer applications for: Freedom Passes Blue Badges Disabled Parking Bays Ensure applications are assessed accurately, fairly and within agreed service standards. Calculate, approve and arrange award payments through relevant systems. Handle complex customer enquiries and provide advice on welfare benefits and financial support options. Monitor team performance, quality assurance standards and workload distribution. Produce management information, statistical reports and expenditure monitoring data. Contribute to service improvement initiatives, policy implementation and operational development projects. Build effective working relationships with internal departments, external agencies and community partners.
About You
We are looking for someone with:
Experience working within welfare benefits, local welfare assistance, housing support or a similar public sector environment. Strong knowledge of welfare benefits legislation, discretionary support schemes and customer assessment processes. Experience supporting or supervising a team in a customer-focused service. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex cases. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands. Outstanding communication skills and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. Experience using case management and benefits systems, alongside Microsoft Office applications. A proactive approach to improving services and supporting colleagues' development.
