Senior Manager - Tax Governance Services

About the role 

Tax & Legal brings together tax, legal and technology expertise to help clients manage complex obligations, make informed decisions and protect value. Within Tax Governance Services, the team supports clients with UK and global tax governance requirements, tax transparency, tax internal audit, the safe use of artificial intelligence in tax, and engagement with tax authorities on systems and process reviews. 

As a Senior Manager, you will help lead Tax Governance Services across the North. You will develop client relationships, oversee high-quality delivery, build the local team and help create new propositions that respond to changing client needs. You will work with colleagues from in-house, advisory and HM Revenue & Customs backgrounds across a growing, multidisciplinary UK team. 

Roles and responsibilities

  Lead and strengthen relationships with new and existing clients, understanding their priorities and identifying where tax governance support can add value.

  Oversee the delivery of high-impact tax governance services, applying sound judgement and maintaining a clear focus on client outcomes.

  Build the local Tax Governance Services team and contribute to the development of a connected national practice.

  Coach and support colleagues, creating clear opportunities for learning, collaboration and development.

  Develop practical new tax governance propositions that respond to regulatory change and emerging client needs. 

  
  

• 
  

  Support the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence within tax services, with appropriate attention to governance and risk.

  Bring together tax, technology, systems and process perspectives to help clients strengthen their governance arrangements.

  Contribute to the growth and direction of the business through commercial leadership, internal collaboration and external networks. 

  
  

Experience and skills needed 

• 
  

  Demonstrable experience of tax governance gained in-house, in professional services or within HM Revenue & Customs, with evidence of applying that knowledge to business or client challenges.

  Experience of leading and developing client relationships, including understanding needs, managing expectations and delivering valued outcomes. 

  
  

• 
  

  Evidence of leading, coaching or developing colleagues and contributing to effective, collaborative teams. 

  
  

• 
  

  A commercial approach, with experience of identifying opportunities, developing services or supporting business growth. 

  
  

• 
  

  Knowledge of tax technology, systems and processes, and the ability to apply this understanding to governance and risk management. 

  
  

• 
  

  Clear written and verbal communication skills, with experience of explaining complex tax governance matters to different audiences. 

  
  

Qualifications required 

ACA, CTA, an HM Revenue & Customs qualification, or an equivalent relevant professional qualification.
